Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - The Hard Way Limited Edition 7" Box Set

This is The Hard Way album that many of you already know and love but in a special edition for Record Store Day: eleven 7"s in a deluxe box with 28 page photo booklet--all the tracks from the original album plus ten bonus tracks, including eight instrumental mixes. Most of these were sold by special order via our Specialty Mailing List but we do have a few extras for walk-ins. Will hit the floor Tuesday evening.


Natural Yogurt Band - Away With Melancholy 2x10"

I've been playing the hell out of my copy of this gem for a while now. The double 10" includes three tracks that aren't on the CD.

Rikki Ililonga and Musi-O-Tunya - Dark Sunrise 3LP

An anthology of Zambian “Zamrock” godfather Rikki Ililonga and his groundbreaking band Musi-O-Tunya. This anthology surveys Musi-O-Tunya’s rarely heard 7" singles -- not just the first psychedelic rock music, but the first pop music independently released in Zambia -- their debut album Wings of Africa and follows Ililonga’s solo career in its first stages, with his Zambia and Sunshine Love albums. Check the left column to sample the title track.


Seu Jorge and Almaz - s/t 2LP - Gatefold

Most know Jorge as from the soundtrack to The Life Aquatic or the film City of God. Here, the Brazilian singer is joined by drummer Pupillo and guitarist Lucio Maia from the stalwart Nação Zumbi; bassist and composer Antonio Pinto from the soundstages of movies starring Seu Jorge. They came together naturally to record a song for a Walter Salles film; they enjoyed the experience so much that they recorded an entire album of music that inspired them. Songs famous within the Brazilian diaspora (Tim Maia, Jorge Ben) mesh with classic American (Roy Ayers, Michael Jackson) and European (Kraftwerk, Cane and Abel) soul songs begging for a bit of psychedelic samba. They enlisted producer and fellow Brazileiro Mario C. (Beastie Boys, Jack Johnson) to put the finishing touches on the project. Their album is both warm and dark; psychedelic and yet grounded, uplifting but at times somber.

Bardo Pond - s/t
