So guitarist extraordinaire Harris Newman dropped by the shop yesterday with a bunch of his and his label's records and CDs. Here's what we now have in stock:

Triple Burner - S/T (CD and LP)
Harris Newman - Decorated (CD and LP)
Harris Newman and Mauro Antonio Pawlowski - Glasvocht (Spilt 12")
Harris Newman - Accidents With Nature and Each Other (CD)
Esmerine - Aurora

Basically, we brought in everything he had available. I played the Triple Burner twice over the course of the day and sold all but one CD and two LPs so if you were keen on picking this one up, act fast. The LP was limited to 500 and both LP and CD are out of print.

If you're not familiar with Harris, he's a Montreal-based guitarist who's often compared to John Fahey and Robbie Basho. Here are a few reviews:

"... beautifully hypnotic... combining tough solo conceptions in the mode of John Fahey ... this is the real deal." - The Wire

"Decorated is the kind of good solo acoustic guitar album that works under both close attention and as evocative ambient music." - Allmusic

"... languid, gorgeous melodies and hefty fingerpicking workouts bump up against ghostly harmonics and acoustic drones... beautiful music." - Boomkat

"The future of acoustic guitar." - Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance)

"Harris Newman's fingerpicked effected acoustic guitar is hypnotic and warm as it circles through Eastern- and Western-inspired arpeggios, pausing to focus on certain patterns or ideas before continuing on to something else." - Allmusic

We also received copies of Esmerine's Aurora LP, which is on Harris and drummer Bruce Cawdron's Madrona Records. Again, I played it twice over the course of the day and we now only have one CD and one LP remaining:

"... a grandly atmospheric collection of predominantly cello/piano compositions that looks to occasional percussive thickets for further augmentation. At turns sinister, brooding, optimistic and exhilarating..." - Boomkat

"Over the course of forty minutes and six movements Foon and Cawdron et al provide a dirgeful opus of clevises, cowbells, and weeping, sawing strings; a cycle of loss—a soundtrack to the world’s end. ... an underlying beauty at work so immense that one cannot help but be drawn in and enveloped." - Stylus

"This is chamber music for people that enjoy low lights and oppressive foreign films - an excellent record. " - Delusions of Adequacy

"Esmerine are flawless." - Word

Harris and Cawdron have also donated a copy of their Triple Burner LP for our Record Store Day raffle.
